Model Paulina Porizkova says her comeback is struggling
Paulina Porizkova is opening up about her career as a model to the Revolution Models blog. Revolution Models is a fashion photography agency based in Dallas, Texas. In our blog, we will bring you the latest fashion, photography and modelling news. Here’s the latest.
On Wednesday, the 57-year-old supermodel took to Instagram to share a selfie paired with a message for her fans, explaining that her recent modelling work is hardly a full "comeback." In the photo, Porizkova posed in front of a dressing room mirror with her hair pulled back, rocking a "'no-makeup' makeup" look and wearing a hot pink knit sweater. In the caption, she revealed she was about to wrap up her final photoshoot of the year.
The timeless beauty said: "People often congratulate me on my 'comeback' to the world of modelling, and it makes me smile," she penned for her more than 949,000 followers. "When I was a model, I'd mostly work every day. So, at least a couple of hundred different jobs, anything from catalogs to fashion spreads and campaigns and stuff in between."
She explained that in 2022, there were "companies who have used me in their campaigns as a model, supporting the 'older' woman, and I'm super grateful to them!"
While Porizkova had seven modelling jobs this year, she called it "a far cry from a comeback."
"This is not to sound ungrateful! I've had an amazing year filled with career highlights. It's merely a statement of fact," she shared. "I'm hardly making a 'comeback as a model.' But I'm thrilled and grateful to all the people who have chosen to work with me this year."
"You look as beautiful as ever, so happy to see these companies are embracing aging," one Instagram user commented. "You are such an inspiration for so many of us. Thank you for being so real and honest about things."
Over four times as many models over age 50 in the Fall 2017 fashion shows as there were employed for Spring 2016, according to theFashionSpot’s newest diversity report. The site tracked statistics of size, race, age and gender for 7,035 models cast in 241 shows over this past fashion month, which ended last week in Paris.
New York Fashion Week led the charge as most diverse overall, but each city contributed a little bit to making the runways more age-friendly this season. According to the report, “21 models over age 50 walked the runways of New York, Paris, London and Milan.”
While this might sound like a small number, it’s significant when compared to previous seasons: It’s a whopping 160 percent increase over Spring 2016, when only five were hired. Eleven models over 50 walked in Fall 2016, according to theFashionSpot, and 13 were employed for Spring 2017.
